Muskoka’s most captivating cottage

The Alluring Charm of Come Hither Cottage

Like the sirens calling you to a tempting spot, Come Hither cottage on Muskoka’s Peninsula Lake beckons you to the most charming and quintessentially old-world, yet stacked with modern conveniences family cottage compound.
Located on a 40-mile stretch of connected waterways, Come Hither’s 530-feet of level and sandy shoreline offers sunset views and 6,000 square feet of comfortable and easy living space. Spectacular and unique for sure, but it may just be the history of this captivating cottage that is the most alluring aspect of all.

Few properties for sale today can tell their story through the years like Come Hither can

In 1909 R.J. Dilworth built a two-story cottage for his family on Pym’s Point. The original cottage had only coal lamps and candles for light, a hand pump connected to a storage tank on the hill behind the house for running water, and a wood-burning stove for heat. Provisions were purchased in Huntsville, but fresh fruits and vegetables were brought weekly to the dock by boat where containers were filled with what was needed.

Logging activities were a constant site on the lake and booms were towed by tugboat Phoenix down to Huntsville, sometimes with a delighted youngster’s canoe tied to the stern.

In 1933 the Dilworths built the present day cottage with the added conveniences of a partial basement for a hot-air furnace and electricity throughout. The massive refrigerator with its motor housed in the basement is still in use today and is as efficient as ever.

The fully functional cookstove generates heat and conversation in the spacious kitchen and a wood box in the living room beside the stately Muskoka riverstone double-sided fireplace amazes guests as it can be restocked from the basement.

3 cozy Bunkies dot the property

The main floor master bedroom retreat has a private screened-in porch and 4 family bedrooms on the 2nd floor provide ample room for sleepovers after large gatherings in the open concept living-dining room and the casual Muskoka room.
A radiant floor heated lower level completes the main house with a wood buring fireplace, in-law suite, and large recreational room whose doors open to grounds that slope easily towards the lake.

Everywhere in the cottage we are reminded of the loving care that was expended–the flagstone pathways, some lined with quartz to aid the night traveller, ingenious pumps and time-saving inventions, the perennials in the garden that appear as if by magic, and so much more.” –Joan Van Duzer, present owner
